Vintage Greeting Cards

I found an amazing stash of vintage greeting cards covering a variety of topics and holidays! Everything from anniversary well-wishes to Easter cards to wedding cards... they are SO cool. Even the fonts are so different and fancy and nothing like you see today!

The problem is that they don't have envelopes and they're not the standard sizes of today's greeting cards.

Do you think people will still be interested in vintage cards even if they don't have envelopes? They are SO cute, I think yes, but I'm unsure.

Also, what do you think is a fair price? I'm thinking somewhere in the $1-3 range at my booth but is that too low? Or is that fair since they don't have envelopes?

Your input is definitely appreciated!! Thanks! :)

We met...

Robert Duvall!

Andy with Robert Duvall!

We had the opportunity to go down to Atlanta on Monday to attend the world premiere of the new film Seven Days In Utopia, starring Robert Duvall and Lucas Black. The website I work for gave away a trip to walk the red carpet with Third Day, a band whose song was featured prominently in the film. I went down to help coordinate and escort the winners... and to try to catch a glimpse of Bobby Duvall. :)

As soon as our winners stepped foot on the green carpet (it's a golf movie, so the "red carpet" was actually green!), we heard buzz that Duvall was on his way. We had a lot of time before the film began, so we waited around to watch for him. We saw cameras flashing like crazy and knew that he had arrived. It was so cool to watch he and Lucas Black interact with all the reporters and Andy even got a little wave from Robert.

After the film (which was good, btw!), we attended a semi-private reception where Robert Duvall was standing around talking to people! We waited patiently for a chance to say hello and we shook his hand, told him how much we love his work, then he and Andy got to talk country music (Johnny Cash, Billy Bob Thornton, and Lefty Frizzell). It was such a pleasure to meet him - he is really sweet and seems very genuine. I thought he was precious!

Now that I have met him, I'm ready to see more Robert Duvall films! What's your favorite? There are tons of great vintage ones but he even stuns us in his most recent films too! (Get Low is one of my favorite movies!)

Favorite Finds: Wendy Lee's Handbag

In our third installment of Favorite Finds, Wendy Lee of Punctuation Studio shares with us how her flea market handbag is more than just a new accessory.

Wendy Lee says, It's a flea market find that wasn't a steal, but it's definitely one of my favorite things. I was always envious of other people's vintage purses, but I could never find anything that was in decent condition and walked that fine line between retro cool and grandma chic. Then I stumbled upon this at one of the indoor stalls at the Nashville Flea Market and it's just perfect!

I like to imagine it's the kind of thing my grandmother might have left me (if my big sister didn't hog all her good vintage stuff).

Wendy Lee has just started a Creative Collective of which I'm happy to be a part! (Notice that grammar - I feel more pressure to use correct grammar in Wendy Lee's post!) Last week a group of us got together and crafted, sharing ideas and inspiration. It was so fun!

Thanks, Wendy Lee, for sharing your fleamarket purse!

If you would like to be considered for Favorite Finds, email me a photo of the item you would choose as your Favorite Find and a little bit about it. I'll write you back with some questions to answer and then we'll get you set up! I have several in store for you guys already so I may not be able to feature every submission that comes in but I would love to see what you guys have!

Decorating by Andy

For a year or two, I had a collection of frames full of different art above the couch. I got pretty tired of the configuration and thought the art might be a little too girly, so after we got married and Andy moved in, I took them down.

I tried to figure out a new configuration, replacing some of the art, but I am having major decorator block! I redecorated another wall instead because I just couldn't figure out what to do above the couch!

I guess Andy got tired of the "nail graveyard" hanging above our couch (I am definitely going to remove the nails and use 3m command strips when I next hang something there) because I came home Saturday to find this:

Upon closer inspection...

Hilarious! Andy really doesn't care about decorating but he added his special touch. Should I take the hint and remove the nails and figure something out?? :)

I have a plan, I just have to find the right fabric for it. When we got his new desk, it came with amazing, huge pieces of styrofoam. I plan to cut a large rectangle into 3 smaller ones, cover them with fabric, then hang them up. We'll see how it goes - I will definitely be updating the blog about it since it's one of my "30 before 30" items!

Quirky Vintage French Illustrations

If vintage illustrations, photographs, advertisements, instructions, and general ephemera strike your fancy then you'll love Agence Eureka... especially if you love all that AND you're a Francophile like me!

Delve into the archives and be amazed by the collection they've curated and uploaded to flickr. They're not extremely high-res but I have successfully printed many of the images and framed them in my house.

If you need help with translating the site, let me know and maybe I can remember something from my French minor! :)

Won't you be my...voter?

Haha, I was trying to come up with a title that would be somewhat cute and not too desperate. :)

I did a crazy thing. I entered a contest to win a prize of 25k or 50k to help me with my local business. Right now, my local business is a booth at an antique mall but I have big dreams of growing it on the side. I love the idea so much that I would even be willing to hustle, hustle, hustle on the weekends while maintaining my full-time job!

So, if you'd like to dream big with me, you can vote for Owl Really by clicking the image below.

I know, it's crazy - but crazier things have happened right?? I'm not setting my eyes on this prize but if by some miracle, it happened, I would definitely be floored and very, very grateful.

All you have to do is click below, wait a minute for it to load, and then fill out the information. It's super simple and it doesn't even require signing up for membership or anything!

Thank you so much!

Vintage Chair Hunt and TV Inspiration

I am on the hunt for a pair of cute vintage chairs for my office. I have been in the same office for about 2 years but never really took the time to decorate. I recently re-arranged the office and got rid of an old, sloppy couch and now I'm ready for a pair of cute chairs.

When we were home in Louisville in June, I spotted a pair of chairs at a "peddler's mall" but didn't pay much attention to them because I wasn't on a chair hunt at that point! I recently asked my mom if she could go look and see if they were still there, and she sent me a photo and the price. $35 a piece! I think that's a little pricey - I was hoping for more like $20 a piece. (I am cheap!)

I passed on the chairs but I'm hoping they get discounted sometime soon.

Over the weekend, I was at an estate sale and snapped some photos of other potential chairs. They were much different from what I'm looking for, but I was trying to keep an open mind.

First up - these amazing green living room chairs!

They were sooo comfy and only $40 for the pair! I thought it might be a little strange to have living room chairs for guests in my office, though... so I unfortunately passed but the same estate sale had dining room chairs that I was intrigued by as well!

But they also might look strange in an office. My heart is really set on those small, rounded, cane back green chairs. Here they are again- so cute!

Imagine my surprise when I was watching the Dick Van Dyke show on Hulu and saw a very similar chair in Rob and Laura's bedroom!

You may wonder what Rob is doing with a gun! In this episode of Dick Van Dyke, there is a cat burglar roaming their neighborhood. One night, they hear a stirring and Rob gets his trusty rifle in order to investigate the situation. Right next to their dresser is a chair so similar to the one I wanted that I was convinced it was the same one until I pulled up both photos!

I'm still looking for some vintage chairs and I'm constantly inspired by the design on the Dick Van Dyke show! AND, we just started watching Mad Men on Netflix and I'm drooling over the furniture and design on the show! (I know, I'm 5 years late, but DANG this show is amazing.)

So, I'm definitely still on a chair hunt... if you're in Nashville, let me know if you come across some chairs you think I might life for my office!
