The only piece of furniture in our house that I have bought "new" is a cute little loveseat from Target.com. Everything else (except the mattresses) is second hand. Literally.
I really used to like the Pottery Barn style so when I found a good deal on a brown "leather" couch on Craigslist several years ago, I snatched it right up. My style has developed and evolved, however, and I find myself drawn to cleaner lines... and daydreaming of buying a vintage (or vintage-inspired) couch.
I have a plan to save up and get a new couch. The funds are adding up thanks to my recent birthday and I'm researching and looking around and trying to figure out what I want that will be husband-approved (comfort is key to him!). I always had my heart set on the Corona sofa from Macy's - let's take a moment to admire her -
She goes on sale quite often but she's not available in our area and I'm a little wary of buying a couch without actually sitting on it first!
I have googled and googled and looked through the photo galleries of local furniture chains but I have been unable to find anything similar - style or $$ wise.
I did stumble upon Regal Furniture in Smyrna, TN and their huuuge online gallery of couches. I can't imagine they keep all these in stock, they must just be available for order... and I did find a designer that I like but I have no idea how much the couches run! I used their "contact us to inquire about a price" form but have heard nothing.
All that to say, the designer is Charles Schneider and here are a few beautiful couches to drool over!
If you're also couch shopping, follow my "couch coveting" board on Pinterest to see what else I find as I continue to embark on the Great Couch Hunt of 2011!
Do you know where to find vintage-y new couches? Let me know in the comments!

Birth-day-dreaming
It's my 29th birthday which means it's my GOLDEN birthday! We're celebrating by getting brunch at the Holland House in East Nashville then going to the movies! I'm so excited to see Bridesmaids and we just might do a double feature and see the Hangover 2 as well! I normally like really thought-provoking dramas or quirky comedies (not big blockbusters) but these both look hilarious and fun and I'm excited to see them! Kristen Wiig + Maya Rudolph = amazingness!

If I could be anywhere right now though, I'd be in Brooklyn! (Hey honey, let's go to New York for my 30th! winkwink!) I constantly daydream about the Brooklyn Flea and sfgirlbybay posted a GORGEOUS blog about the Brooklyn Flea on Friday. She captured stunning details of the flea and surrounding areas. Click through to see more and if you're ever in New York, be SURE to head to the Brooklyn Flea on Saturdays and Sundays!

Friday Finds: Gorgeous 1960s dress for sale from Kimvintage
In 1960 Roxane of Samuel Winston won the prestigous Coty Award for beaded evening wear. One look at this stunning red-carpet worthy dress leaves no doubt as to why.
Kim of kimvintage is a vintage clothing and accessories MAVEN. She is also going to be one of my booth neighbors when I move into the Tennessee Antique Mall. I have been a fan of Kim's booth for years - she has, in my opinion, the best selection and prices on vintage boots. I originally met her at the flea market and she took my shoe size and email address and now I receive emails when there are killer boots in my size. I have bought 2 pairs of boots from her booth (brown cowboy boots that I wear ALL fall and winter and black/gray cowboy boots) and I have taken a few friends to buy boots from her booth as well.
When it was time to start researching antique malls, I wrote Kim and she has been SUCH a great resource! We met for coffee last week and we have a lot in common aside from loving vintage items! It was so fun to connect with her and I know that she's going to be a great mentor-figure, as long as she doesn't get tired of all my questions! :)
Shop Kimvintage on etsy and if you're in the Nashville area, check out her booths at the Tennessee Antique Mall and the Downtown Antique Mall. Last week, all her items were 60% off so stop in SOON!

She-Devil likes Owl Really!
Wondering what the heck the title of this post means??? Read on...
Before I met Andy, I went to a Nashville Rollergirls bout but had no idea what was going on and was mainly there to people watch. Since I've met Andy, I have hardly missed a bout!
He DJs the bouts and is friends with the whole league and is very involved with them - he travels to the out of town games and everything. I have loved getting to know the rollergirls and have gotten to know She-Devil because we work in the same industry for our day jobs and we go to the same church.
She even texted me photos from a surprise party she threw last night- here are the cake stands in action!
And here's how we used this same cake stand at our wedding reception!

Her real name is Elizabeth and she really wanted to come shop at the OMG Urban Flea Market a week and a half ago but she was out of town so, we set up a time for her to come over and we trekked upstairs where all my inventory is and went through each rubbermaid tub one by one! She found SO many great items including a really awesome green travel bag that's perfect for toting a laptop, a few cake stands I made for the wedding, a button ring I made, a record, and much more. Here she is with 2 of the cake stands! |

Here it is!
I am so excited for Andy! He has wanted a jukebox since he was a little kid! I found this on craigslist today and it was SO incredibly cheap compared to what other juke boxes sell for! It needs a little bit of work but it totally plays 45s and it came with GREAT songs! When they brought it in the house, I got to punch the first numbers and I chose "Stepping Stone" by the Monkees - I love me some Monkees!! I can't wait until it's working perfectly and we get some external speakers for it so it sounds even better - we are even thinking of getting outdoor speakers for the deck!
The newest addition to our household...
You'll never believe what Andy is buying tonight!
Drumroll please....

That's right... a jukebox from 1977!
I have the coolest husband in the world. :)

Visit Owl Really in person!
Beginning June 4, Owl Really will have a space at the Tennessee Antique Mall! It has always been one of my favorite antique malls (I have found so many GREAT things there!) and the owners are a super sweet older couple. I signed the contract on Saturday and will spend all day Saturday, June 4, getting it set up. I love staging items and displaying things, so I'm really excited to get in and start doing that! Stay tuned for more information and photos of the booth!

to blogger or not to blogger?
i've been using tumblr and it's SO easy but all the "legitimate" bloggers use blogspot or wordpress and NOT tumblr... so i'm wondering if i should make the switch. tumblr is just soooo easy for a lazy blogger like myself. :) we'll see what happens!
