Oh, goodness. I have mentioned before I love vintage ceramics but let me just reiterate it - I love vintage ceramics! I like to imagine little old ladies sitting around gabbing and making them together then toting them home proudly to their families. It seems so fun!
At a yard sale over the summer, I found a vintage ceramic, light-up Christmas tree and was so delighted to snatch it up for only $2. The top was broken off, but I glued it back on. You can see where the paint has been chipped away, but I think it adds character to it! This Christmas tree has seen MANY Christmases!
Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it is time to decorate for Christmas! But, I must confess that I set this tree up the day before Thanksgiving. I worked from home and wanted some ambiance!
I love it! I almost put it in my booth but really couldn't bear to part with it. I do have a GORGEOUS white ceramic tree with all blue lights in my booth, but it does not have a lighting element under it so it wasn't as immediately ready to be displayed. And it seems a tad fancy for our house. I love the kitschy-ness of this tree. I am in love!

Love, love, love this! We have two of those trees that my Mother actually made back in the late 60's. Setting those up was, and still is, one of my favorite parts of the holidays!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
My granny has a tree just like that!! It makes me think of her. :)
ReplyDeleteYour mammaw made one-but it was in the 70's. I guess she was a little late to the ceramics party!
ReplyDeleteThis tree is so cute! When are you putting up YOUR tree?

My grandma had one of those!! I'm pretty sure she made it.
ReplyDeleteYours was a steal for $2!
Oh how funny! Back in the day I owned, for a short period of time, a shop that I sold ceramic and plaster items to paint and decorate. I even taught classes on how to do it. I had a tree just like that one! With the holes for the lights and everything.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to find the time to pull out my massive Christmas decor, I hate the short period of time there is to decorate for Christmas after Thanksgiving. Maybe that is why I keep it up until Jan 1.
I LOVE it!! (and $2??? you can't beat that! I think I paid $10 for mine but i see them for $50+on ebay!)
ReplyDeleteThey're so fun huh....do your little lights come out or are they permanently fixed? Ours come out, which Wolfie loves (so he can rearrange) but it makes storing tricky!
the lights are actually lit by a light bulb under the tree - they're not like a string of lights inserted into the holes like other trees. it's pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteI love that ceramic tree and it's the number #1 item on my thrifty finds wish list. I don't think you should ever part with it.
ReplyDeleteI had a tree just like this!
ReplyDeleteActually I believe it came from my mother-in-law and instead of the "lights" there were red birds Like red cardinals instead.
I got my grams a couple of years ago & will never part with it!!
