What a Difference Brasso Makes!

owls-before-2

I debated on buying these owl napkin rings because they were SO tarnished. At the end of the day, I knew I couldn't pass up 8 brass owl napkin rings, so I took my chance on them!

I picked up some Brasso for less than $3 at the grocery store then wore gloves on my hands as I spent a good chunk of an afternoon polishing them up.

I used an old toothbrush to get into the crevices of the eyes. They turned out so much better than I thought they could!

I sold 4 of them at the flea market and the other 4 are available in my booth at the Tennessee Antique Mall!

Friday Fun: Vintage Family Photos + Is it Spring yet?

My mom scanned alllll her old photos several years ago and gave them to me. I recently pulled out my external hard drive to take some walks down memory lane. Every Friday I will be posting some fun photos from my childhood! Hopefully this won't be boring. :)

I loved looking at these bright, crisp photos from the playground. Looks like I went with my cousins and looks like we had a blast. Is it spring yet??? I'm looking forward to bright, crisp days!

(That's me in the pink hoodie! My cousins are in the dark hoodie wearing glasses and the redheaded boy in the letterman's looking jacket.)

Eyeglasses from Firmoo.com

jamie-glasses

I don't normally post "selfies" on the internet, but I needed to show off my new glasses!

Two years ago, I started to notice that my eyes felt a little strained. I've always had great vision, but at night I began to have a hard time reading street signs and when the light was dim in our living room, I had trouble reading text on the TV. I visited the eye doctor and he wrote me a prescription that I never got filled. Woops. (I know that my eyes have probably changed in the past two years, but I still don't have vision coverage, so this will do for now!)

Fast forward two years and I started getting headaches at work almost every day that felt related to my eye strain. I was so excited to get an email from Firmoo.com asking me if I'd like to review a pair of glasses! I dug out my old prescription and set about ordering the glasses.

Now, I know NOTHING about glasses and vision prescriptions and all that. That's the reason I never got the prescription filled--because I wasn't sure what to do! (Also, I'm a procrastinator. And then we changed insurances and I lost vision coverage!) The good thing is that Firmoo makes it really easy to order. I provided them with the numbers from my prescription, measured some extra measurements, and I was all set!

Firmoo offers bloggers glasses for review, but they also offer anyone their first pair free! As a blogger, I think I got to choose from a wider variety, but they still have so many fun options that I don't think you'll have a problem finding something that works for you... FREE!

So, I logged on to Firmoo.com and uploaded a photo of myself so I could virtually try on different pairs. I was a little nervous because I've never worn glasses and I felt a little silly seeing my face in glasses! I loved that I could virtually try on glasses, though - it would have been so hard to pick something out that works with my face, otherwise!

I knew I wanted something slightly rectangular since I have a round face. I decided on this pair and I was so glad they were offered in chocolate brown because I was nervous that black would look really foreign on my pale face. I thought the contrast might be too strong and thought that I would feel more comfortable in brown. It was a good choice, I think!

Firmoo.com wants you to know:

The old opinion that glasses are only necessities for people with vision problems has already gone. Glasses are increasingly becoming a fad and must-have accessories for celebs and fashionistas. Everyday we can spot millions of non prescription glasses wearers and we are constantly fascinated by many noted film stars’ signature non prescription glasses. They instantly upgrade your look of modern, sexy, vintage or geek by wearing different styles of frames.

Any hot glasses/sunglasses /goggles frames you want can be found on Firmoo, and all are available for both prescription lenses and non-prescription lenses. Are you desperate to have a new look? Now here is the chance, Firmoo has launched a First Pair Free Program to people worldwide. You will absolutely fall in love with the excellent quality, affordable prices, fashionable designs, fast delivery and the good service after trying them with paying shipping only! You even can get a refund/exchange if you are not satisfied with them. It's totally Risk free, so why not have a try?

All in all, it was really fun to pick out free glasses and live my new hipster life. I'm finishing this blog post in a trendy coffee shop, drinking a glass of wine, and wearing my new specs. It feels pretty foreign to me, but it's fun to branch out, don't you think??

P.S. Remember that owl auction I posted last week? It went for $252. TWO HUNDRED FIFTY TWO DOLLARS. Wow.

Pura Vida Vintage

PuraVidab

Earlier this year when I ventured out to Clarksville and bought everything I could, I met a girl named Krystle who said she was opening a vintage shop in Nashville. On Music Row. I worked 4 years on music row, so I was curious where. She asked, "Do you know where Discmakers is?" My heart stopped for a second because my old office was ABOVE Discmakers. What if she was moving her new store into the old HearItFirst office?!?

In fact, she wasn't, but in a small building out back behind the office.

Check this out:

Crazy, huh? If I still worked there, I could hang out with her on my lunch hour every day!

I'm really excited for Krystle and that she has her own little space to sell now! Although she has some housewares, she focuses mostly on clothes and accessories from the 50s-90s.

Isn't this gorgeous?

puravida3b

I loved her collections of sunglasses, scarves, and purses!

So, what did I buy??

This adorable glasses case! Why did I buy a glasses case?? You'll see tomorrow!!

Thrift Report: You Can Find Me In The Bins Edition

Just a tiny little thrift report today! I dropped off some donations to Goodwill so I took the opportunity to run inside the outlet and go through the bins as a bit of stress-relief.

flashcards-box

I was super curious what was in this box--and most times when you find a cool box in the bins, it's either empty or contains something totally different than what is listed outside. But since I had no idea what an "Advanced Decoding Kit" was, I was pleasantly surprised to find flashcards!

flashcards

They have words on one side and illustrations + words on the other. Not sure what is so "decoding" about that, but I do love a good flashcard!

bag

And then, of course, I never pass up a travel/shoulder bag like this. And it's a Samsonite! Awesome. I have 3 blue ones in my booth right now - they haven't been selling lately, so I suppose this one will go into storage. I sell this type for $32 if anyone is interested in buying it - send me an email and we'll figure out how much shipping would cost!

Speaking of the bins, did you see my favorite people Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performing on SNL Saturday? Here's their "Thrift Shop" performance--edited for TV!

If you want to see how amazing and deep they are, watch the music video for "Wings" below. Amazing and challenging.

So powerful. I love that they have such a voice in pop culture right now and as long as people get past "Thrift Shop" to hear their other songs, I think their music can do a LOT of good in the world. I love them.

Oh, Owls - I want you all!

This ebay auction has captured my heart. Sigh. Too bad it's way out of my price range!

My booth needs these! I once bought a huge lot after an estate sale for $40...I need that kind of magic again!
