The Thrift Report: Early April Finds

Made it out to a few sales this weekend! Found some fun things. I'm trying to buy outside of my main style-zone, but I'm having trouble!


I love finding these little danish-style s&p shakers! They never last long in my booth - I wonder if I'm way underpricing them? Should probably google them...hmmm.... :)

I love these fabric napkins! They coordinate well with our dining room curtains and the table runner I keep on the table, so I'm keeping them!

This needlepoint jewelry box isn't my normal style, but the price was right and it was kinda cute, so I got it. Raggedy Ann!!!! I love her. And a tiny little horse toy.


I am a sucker for vintage sewing books! And I absolutely love buying books that are totally sexist in our 2013 context which is why I couldn't pass up the very pink "Standard Handbook for Secretaries" and a questionably sexist "How You Look And Dress" book.

I also really like books that are for "today" - Psychology For Life Today - you just know that so much it says is tooootally out of date. And then a fun treasury of Sherlock Holmes.


Christmas! Ya gotta shop year-round if you want a stocked booth for Christmas! Some ornaments, a ceramic Santa boot, another tree!!!, a cute stuffed wreath, and some sheet music that is mostly Christmas-y.

Not too bad for two quick sales!

A House Update

Soo, after many weeks (months?!) of deliberation and preparation and discussion and planning and unplanning and replanning, we are no longer listing our house for sale this spring.

Crazily, we got an offer on our house through Zillow. As we crunched the numbers, we saw that they were NOT on our side. (Buying your first house is wonderful but SELLING your first house is really troubling, it seems. It's hard to get your money back!)

As we were deliberating the offer, the counteroffer, and the eventual listing of our house, Andy proposed, "What if we stayed?"

All of a sudden, I felt a huge wave of relief come over me. It was like a lightbulb went off over both of us.

It's hard to go from looking at all these great houses and getting excited about house-shopping to then putting all that on hold…

The other night, I felt so restless. I felt like I needed change or for something crazy or exciting to happen. I had Good Friday off and I told Andy that I wanted to get a tattoo or drive somewhere out of town or just doing something new and exciting. I realized that I had been looking forward to this huge event of selling and buying houses and that I would have a huge project to work on… so we talked about it, and now I'm going to be re-decorating a few areas of our house and re-configuring some things to make the house work better for us and our future. I feel pretty good about having some projects and things to focus on at our house!

So, all that to say, we're staying in our house and we have a plan for paying off all our debt so that in a few years, we'll be in a much better place (with more equity in our house!) to sell and buy our second house. That's really exciting--NOT as exciting as buying a new house, but very exciting in a grown-up kind of way. :)

I have bought SO many things from thredUP over the past few months - my two favorites right now are 2 long-sleeve Old Navy button-ups. One has little anchors all over it and the other is a polka dot chambray shirt! I have bought shirts, dresses, cardigans, and skirts. The best thing is that they offer free returns, so if something doesn't work out, you can send it right back!

I also bought adorable t-shirts for our nephew Ollie for only $3.99 each. I had clicked someone's referral link, though, so I got them for free. Magic!

The packaging is really nice and playful! When you order a lot (like I just did recently), you get a really cute polka dot box in the mail. They take care to package your items really well.

To sell:

Simply order a free clean-out kit to fill up with clothes. They insist that the bag is *stuffed* when you send it back (which was no problem for me, I've been hoarding clothes for years). They pay the return shipping! They will pay you for the clothes they decide to take and they recycle what they don't accept.


I have sent 5 bags in and earned a total of $166. Not bad!

A Window from Owl Really + Audrey Assad Kickstarter

I met Audrey Assad years ago through my former job. I had the privilege of sitting down to interview her numerous times and always enjoyed our time together and hearing the heart and the depth of her songs. Her creativity is so inspirational!

If you follow me on instagram, you might have seen her buying a leaded glass window from me at the flea market. She told me that she was going to use it in her kickstarter campaign video. WELL! The kickstarter has started, she has achieved all her funding, and the video looks great!


You can still pre-order her new (indie!) album through donating to her kickstarter, so be sure to check it out. If you're not familiar with her music, you may really love it! She's great!

Thrift Report: Late finds!

Woops, I forgot to post these finds from a few weeks ago! I squeezed in as many sales as I could and spent a long Saturday morning venturing around, trying to scoop up some finds.

First up, I picked up this great Westinghouse fan (it works!) from the Family Tree estate sale. I also grabbed this cute, cute, cute pink bunny face from a local thrift store. On Saturday, I bought this yellow McCoy planter at Family Tree for half off! At a really random sale on Thursday or Friday, I got this cute key hanger.


Sooo, I'm pretty jealous because Rae bought an amazing box of Christmas stuff at an estate sale probably just moments before I showed up and got totally ripped off. If you check out her post, you'll see the GOBS of amazing vintage Christmas items she picked up for $4. I, on the other hand, paid $5 for this little pile of stuff. It's still an OK deal, but I'm so jealous of her score!! Happy for her, but jealous. :)


I like to keep apple-y things in my booth, I think they're cute! I picked up some books - I love to keep sewing and etiquette books stocked and then I thought this "Things To Worry About" book was pretty cute. I like school-y type things, so I grabbed this box of colorful chalk…and of course I buy as many vintage ceramic Christmas trees as I can. I bought all 3 of these in one weekend--two in one day! I'm a maniac!!!


I'm holding the Christmas items for Christmas but everything else is in my booth! Come shop!! :)
