Smoky Mountains 2012

Just a note first --- I'm still getting used to my new schedule - I was actually only working part time for a few months before I got my new job and I got really used to only working in the mornings then having the afternoons for creative endeavors like thrifting, taking photos, blogging, smashbooking, cleaning my house... :)

It's been harder to keep our house clean and blog and thrift and all that other stuff now that I work in a farther away suburb. I don't have time to run home over lunch to see Lucy and there aren't any thrift stores near my office... at all. The good thing is that I love my new job, so that makes up for it. I just need to get back into the routine and find alternative times to thrift - more on that soon!

I last posted about things I didn't buy in Bowling Green and I still want to show what I did buy - I just haven't been home during daylight very much lately! I had to buy a new camera last week and then we immediately went to Gatlinburg with Andy's family for our annual trip. (See last year's trip here! Haha - we're basically both wearing the same thing both years! Woops!)

It was our nephew's first trip to Gatlinburg - it will be so fun to come back next year when he's older and can run around! :)

Don't worry, there were plenty of adults standing right next to him that I cropped out of the Smoky Mountains sign photo! There's a photo of Ollie's dad that's just like this from the 70s, so we stopped to re-create it.

The Chimney picnic area is just so beautiful. We picnic, play cards, and hang out for an afternoon - it's great! We also shop, hang out at the cabin, and explore Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge every year. This year, Andy and I went to Wonderworks in Pigeon Forge and it was pretty fun! Next year, we'll either check out Castle of Chaos or MagiQuest. Don't you just love tourist traps and all the weird things you can find there??? :)

Things I Didn't Buy...

Yesterday, we met my parents in Bowling Green for lunch to celebrate my dad's birthday. No family get-together is complete without a little bit of thrifting or antique-mall-browswing!

We love the antique mall at Flealand- I almost always find something great there! I bought a few awesome things that I still need to photograph, but here are some cell phone photos of things I didn't buy, but liked!

Top row:

Incredible doe/fawn nightlight! I loved it (even though they're yellow and look slightly giraffe-like) but at $18, I thought it was a little steep... especially since I wanted to keep it (not re-sell it) and I am already holding onto a really cute owl night light for a future kid.

The pink napkin holder was sooo cute.

Bottom row:

I thought it was so fun that someone was selling a small stack of TV Guides from 1962! We flipped through to see if any of our favorite celebrities were on any of the covers, but they weren't, sadly. I would have flipped out if there had been a Dick Van Dyke issue!

The pink napkin holder came from the booth in the photo below it. Everything was organized by color, which I love. I felt like the quality of the booths has really improved over the past few years! There were so many items I loved.

I will hopefully be able to show photos soon of what I did buy!

Friday Fun: The Goodbye Girl

I don't know how I've missed The Goodbye Girl, but I saw it recently for the first time. I LOVED IT!

I loved the characters: Elliott's persistence, Paula's real-ness, and little Lucy's quips. I loved the story and some of the lines made me laugh out loud - which rarely happens when I'm watching a movie by myself! :)

If you have missed it (like I had), watch the trailer below (although the trailer looks kinda cheesy, it's a Neil Simon play so you know it has credibility!):

I've never done this, but apparently you can rent movies from YouTube. If you have a few hours, I highly recommend renting The Goodbye Girl and watching it!

Find your HomeGoods StyleScope

Jessica of How About Orange posted a link to HomeGoods' StyleScope quiz. It's super easy- you just pick 5 images that resonate with you and it diagnoses your style!

I got "Sassy!"

I do love daisies and bright colors... There's even a little boston terrier (or maybe a french bulldog?) in that photo frame - and OWLS! I kinda like chevrons although I don't think I own anything with a chevron pattern.

The sassy description says:

Sassy is just that! She couldn't be short on personality if she tried. She expresses herself with playful colors, fun patterns, and an unabashed boldness—all acquired at very savvy prices. She knows her style, and she's not afraid to take risks and have fun. When you visit a Sassy friend, you can't help but smile.

Sounds pretty accurate, I think! I like small doses of bright colors, though - I gravitate more (in decorating) to more muted, vintage-inspired colors.

All in all, a fun and quick style quiz!

Lucy and the Wiffle Ball

I've posted photos of crazy Lucy before, but I just can't get enough of them. :)

Lucy is really obsessed with wiffle balls, which we discovered when she found a rogue one in our yard that we assume a neighbor's kid hit over our fence. She went crazy for it, so we bought her a pack that she has been going through.

She somehow pops them in half and then prances around with them in her mouth in the most hilarious ways.

Happy Customers!

You know I love happy customers! I was updating my booth last week and had just brought the fancy globe in. A girl came back to my booth and said she heard from Caroline at the front counter that I had a globe. I showed it to her and she loved it as much as I did!

She scooped it up then her friend joined her in the booth and bought one of my suitcases!

HAPPY CUSTOMERS

I found out that the globe-buyer lives in Brooklyn and I am so excited that my globe is going to have a fashionable new life in New York!

Gabrielle sent me a photo of her new suitcase, which joined her suitcase collection:

I'm hoping to get a photo of the globe once she heads back home! I didn't catch her name but hopefully when the email comes through, I'll know. :)
